I canīt decide!

I'm planning to build a midengine car. First I was thinking aout a blade or a zx9r engine, cause I just love the sound of high revving engines and a six speed sequential gearbox is always very nice! But then a v6 engine with a transaxle would look very nice with polished headers.. mmm, so then I got to think of the mazda 2,5 alloy v6 and the alfa v6 engines, but then I would have to find a suitable transaxle to that or I could go the easy way and mount it transverse and use gearbox and everything from donor. And then there are the honda vtec engines.. I just canīt seem to decide, I change my mind from one day to another. Help me decide! Pls.. I'm going nuts!

i had a look on ebay at audi's the other day. i recon an old audi 100 with a 2.6 v6 with free transaxle (they were inline fwd i think) would be a good start for a stock engine..

Ned.

now if you could find a battered one of these in a scrappy:

Go for an Alfa engine with a perspex cover over it.

I've heard that the alfa engine should have a very nice sound, but is there any transaxle that could fit? Or should I mount it transverse.
Having it mounted to a transaxle suits my plans better as I was planning on making a "box" around the gearbox to mount the suspension to.

I don't think there is an easy transaxle as such, but the alfa 75 had a rear mounted gearbox so maybe a really short propshaft.....

Never driven one but it is often regarded as the best v6 engine going.

I think the audi is a great idea myself, even out of an A4. Same transaxle as a Boxster so you could use the cable shifter. I don't know about the audi 90 and 100, I'm not sure if they had a linkage or cables. But they'd work at any rate. So many options, my mind is reeling....S4 engine anyone? Cheers!

The Mazda 2.5 V6 would be great transverse - compact and lightweight, good torque and power, revs to 8000rpm, cheap and plentiful

Or you could go for the Vauxhall V6 which comes in Front wheel OR rear wheel drive, AND you could use either 2.5 OR 3.0 litre variants. Plentiful, cheap, robust and reasonable output.

Enjoy

I found a mazda 2,5 v6 on the swedish.. I dont know what to call it.. "scrapyard network" well.. the price of such a unit was around Ģ510 without a gearbox. It had quite high mileage on it though.
