type 9 reverse position - curious
I was down the scrapyard yesterday taking a gear lever out of a sierra and noticed that sierras have the reverse gear either to the top left of the
gate or bottom right. The position didn't seem to relate to the ages of the cars. I'd thought all older sierras had the type 9 and newer
ones the MT75 ? Or were ther several versions of the type 9 ?

the difference in position is as you say down to the gearbox. mt75 is different to type9. one is top left, other is bottom right. can't remember
which way round it is. there are 4x4 versions of both boxes, though thought the type9 was mainly in olders sierra's and mt75 in newer etc..

Type 9 is top left,but may have been a 4 speed which i think is in a different possition

2 types of 4 speed,escort chocolate strength boxes were next to first,heavier ones were next to 4th

1.6 Pinto up 1983 to 1994 ( some run out cars had the pinto back in the ) it was phased out in 1992 but came back.
1.6 CVH up to 1992 to 1994

2.8 V6 1983-1989 (2WD & 4WD )
Mt75

2.0 DOHC 1989-1994 ( 2WD & 4WD )
2.9 V6 1988-1994 ( 2WD & 4WD )
2.0 16V Cosworth 1989-1994 (4WD only )
All MT75 boxes are efectivly identical for the gear cluster, however the belhousing is intergrated into the front casing... It's not an easy job
to swap as theres a nut requiring a £300 socket!

you need to include the 2.4 v6 in your type nine list.
also
was a MT75 ever fitted to a 2.9, cos they all seem to be auto - the ones ive seen anyway....

I know there was a manual Type9 in the 2.9 Granada- my Dad had one. It was an 1987 'E' reg.
Stupidly I didn't break the bloody thing- didn't realise how rare it was!

2.3 & 2.4 petrol V6 were never fitted to UK sierras.
The 2.4 would have used an MT75 if it did.
There were some 2.9's fitted with Type 9 boxes early in production ( althoug I would say E-reg Predates the 2.9's introduction by a year
or so?? )
Are you sure it was not a 2.8EFI? ( not to be confused with the 2.8MFi engine ) only found in Granadas in the UK but sierras too on the continent.
Most RWD 2.9's are indeed Auto, there was a number of granadas with Manaul MT75 and also Continental 2.9's with MT75 RWD
Most 4x4 2.9's were MT75.
