Have you had the drive assy out, the long bit that drives the oil pump, just wondering if its been put back in without the o ring and pressure is
blowing the cap off, would have expected a bit of oil too to be honest...
Forget that, the o ring I was thinking of is under the body section.
Thinking cap now on....

Has the dizzy cap been changed, is it the correct one?? Does it seem to clip on firmly?

Seems to clip on firmly. Just got her indoors to crank it while I held the cap on and the cap is actually twisting and so the clips then cone off

Sounds like either the wrong cap, or the wrong rotor. Sounds to me as thought the rotor is hitting the pickups in the cap. Could be wrong, but
don't think so. HTH Ray

Cheers ray. As far as I am aware it us the distributor and cap that came off the running donor, certainly both were dirty enough to be.
Leaving battery to charge for a bit before trying again. All ideas welcome!

Just thinking. Could it be a vacuum pipe issue? Am not 100% they are on right...

I had a similair thing last week- The new rotor arm wasnt seated properly. So as the engine turned over and the rotor arm turned it tried to pop the
cap off. Might be worth checking!

Just had a look. The rotor arm and the plastic cover under it both lifted straight off, is this normal? Put it back on and it seems to sit ok but
wasn't sure it should have come off like it did...

My rotor arm was quite a tight fit- but it was brand new. The plastic cover is only loosly fitted on top.

Rotor not seated properly, hitting the electrode
and pushing the cap off.
When i had my pinto the rotor was a tight fit on the shaft.

Just bought a new rotor arm and cap, fingers crossed this solves it.

Another day another problem.
New arm and cap have solved the first problem but still not starting and carb is shooting the easy start back out the top of the carb.

Haha. No but you put a smile on otherwise sad face.
I have double checked all the vac hoses and have found I missed one
Have no idea where it connects, its the main hose from the manifold that the carb and dizzy tee from. Where should this goto?
I also have the hole on the right branch of the manifold blanked off, is this right?

See page 6 of my gallery to give you an idea of what I did,a brief explanation is that as I'm running a mega jolt for ignition the the dizzy
wasn't needed except for the fact that the oil pump is driven from it so the lower half is still needed, the pictures show the rest.
Cheers
Rich

Cheers for your help Richard. Am avoiding going to megajolt etc for now. I found last night that I had lost spark so decided battery low and getting
it fully charged before redoing some of the ignition loom and trying again.

Thanks for that Rich, hope this isnt a daft question but what stops the shaft from going in a downward direction? is it the meshing of the gears, I
notice on the dizzy I am going to butcher has a slight bit of end float. Ian
