Zetec 1800 performance?
Hello,
I've been offered a really clean, low mileage Zetec 1800 engine with all ancillaries for silly money, so wondered what kind of performance I
should expect from this engine in a car that's going to be built to be as light as possible.
The modifications I would make are fitting the cam's from the 2.0, a set of carbs from a blade or similar superbike, scratch built free flowing
exhaust and a megajolt. Does anyone have any idea's what kind of power I could expect?
My target is to build a car capable of producing 300bhp per ton so at a guess this engine will need to be pushing 165-170bhp to achieve this.....Is it
possible?
Thanks
GM

I have a completely standard blacktop zetec with original ford throttle bodies running 110bhp at the wheels.... Thats about 130 at the crank....
A standard 2ltr is supposedly 150bhp at the wheels.... So i wouldnt expect any more than that from your spec.

Standard 2.0 Ltr Zetec is 135 BHP, Duratec is 150BHP.
With ITB'S you will get around 30BHP extra
(Should have read it a bit better)

Thanks guys. Would a 4 speed box from a 1300 MK2 escort handle that kind of power ok?

fit a type nine and if your not happy buying at silly money let me have a pop at it. The 1800 ideally wants the 2 litre cams which give around another
10bhp. I have a 1800 running bike carbs and 2 litre carbs I reckon I am doing around the 145bhp mark at the flywheel

4 speed from an Escort will struggle with the torque especially if you have wide sticky tyres.
Also has 7/8th 20 spline input shaft so clutch plate and cover will be a problem.
Type 9 has 1" 23 spline and will match a standard Zetec clutch

Yes, it will fit straight onto a zetec.
You will need to fit either a westfield
clutch release bearing or bond a 20mm
spacer onto the existing item. The other alternative
is to move the clutch arm pivot point 20mm further
away from the casing.
