aged Zetec - rework or replace

seasons greetings locosters,

I have a fury with a 2.0 Zetec, currently the engine is out pending arrival of new engine mounts from Steve at Fury sports cars, this set me thinking, take it to someone that can overhaul it and make sure that it will keep going for a bit longer, and perhaps splash some cash on a bit of work,... head work, maybe depends on the cost,.

or

Should I look out for another drop in that has had some fettling done on it?

the current engine is circa 100,000miles and pre emissions,...

looking forward to all your inputs,

thanks again and Merry Xmas

I talked to the guy from Puma race engines who said the Zetecs he had taken apart were very good and would be fine to 200,000 if oil changed frequently.
If compression and oil pressure is good I would leave well alone perhaps a head job and some cams.

when you say its pre-emmisions I take it you mean pre- Aug 95 ?

if you do decide to swap it that might be worth a something to someone else on here for the IVA
(you should keep the emissions limit you have now, even if you swaped it for a new engine )

Depends if you want to drive it next year or have it in bits.... I would be happy with 100K zetec so long as nothing mechanical is on the way out...

I think that it's ok-ish, the oil comes out clean, and I have just built ITB's on an ST170 inlet for it for christmas, but as fas as I know everything else is very very standard. Just exploring the options,...

thanks again for the collective wisdom
