Tiger Cat E1 - engine swap
Hi,
New to website and looking for some help/advice.
I have a tiger cat e1 and looking to swap my pinto out due to some issues with unreliability.
Trying to measure and then search for an engine that physically fits has been rather difficult and I have been reduced to asking what might fit under
the hood based on other peoples experience.
Obvious zetec, duratec, and bike engines have been considered with obvious googling..
Running on a type 9 box.
Cheers, tia.

Vauxhall red top. personall I would go with a Ford configuration zetec bolts directly to they type nine
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

The Redtop fits in the E1 nicely, ive seen it done a few times.
But to be honest the Zetec will be a much easier task.
My engine in an AVON, sorry bout size of piccie...

The Duratec is a good option but the most expensive, but it is a tall engine
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

If you want to use the type 9 gearbox then go for the Zetec. I have a MX5 engine/gearbox in mine and it fits.

Hi after some milling round and some extensive googling I think I have made a decision on either the vauxhall blacktop (c20xe) or the vauxhallredtop
(c20let) or stick with a zetec or duratec for obvious compatibility.
Now obvious question is it going to fit?
C20xe - yes - seen examples
C20let - ??? With turbo?? Or with throttle bodies/carbs?
Zetec - yes - seen examples
duratec - yes - seen examples
Obviously the c20let is more tuneable and has more jumps in bhp (especially the c20let) what is a more respectable figure for the duratec and zetec in
comparison?
Realise that the box will need to be potentially swapped out for something more load bearing if I go down the route of a vauxhall.
What else will I need to take into account from the obvious upgrade from pinto?
Thanks, Matt
Ps. Thinking about getting a Haynes manual and going for it and learning on the job and when it goes wrong take it to a garage and throw money at
it...

I would go for the duratec option as the exhaust is on the same side as the pinto which should save you some work.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
