Front engined, RWD Volkswagen
Anyone know if there is a tranny that will bolt to a 16v VW engine?
Not quite a Locost 7 but I'm looking into converting my GTI to rearwheel drive, witha 2.0l 16v turbo engine.
wondering if theres a tranny out there that will bolt up?
what about the Porsche 924/944 setup? anyone know how different the bellhousings are from the FWD Vw variety?

Don't the 924/944 use an Audi FWD transmission mounted in the rear?
On the other hand i remember seeing a gorgeous Dutch manufactured 7 lookalike that used a 1.8 turbo VW engine, does anyone know what gearbox it uses.

Although the 924/944 is front engined with a rear transaxle, it is really just a modified version of the beetle transaxle as is the rear suspension -
super beetle.
Not really suitable for a locost configuration then.
Check out estfiled. They have done VW engined cars.

estfield uses a LADa gearbox, But I'm not sure if its the lada bellhousing or not,
maybe I can create an adapter plate to use a Toyota Gearbox, I got some friends that are toyota nuts so I can borrow a box and see.

Donkervoort use either a t9 box with their own (sexy!) ally belhousing on the lower power models, and a T5 on the 225hp model.
I'd guess their volkswagen -> type9 bellhousings are, erm, ather expensive..

I am using a VW engine + lada box/rear axle...bellhousing ok with an adapter plate (which I bought off the shelf, its a typical Lada Riva
conversion)
The box will take around 150 horses, like the rally cars in Russia, but more than this, I have no idea.

Hhhmmm, was under the impression that Donkervoort used a 'regular' Audi A4 transmission without the front-diff, and without a middle diff,
but with the Quattro tail-end. They just have to provide something to replace the midle diff with something that feeds everything to the rear, seems
trivial.

Nope, deffo type9 / T5.
A few of my mates got their bachelor's degrees at Donkervoort, and i got the chance to visit the factory. Although quite well put together i
wasn't all too impressed by their chassis. Funky 5 link rear suspension, though!

[Resurrecting an old thread]
This sounds really interesting. Where, exactly, did you buy that adapter plate?
