The clutch on my pinto had been in the car for 5 years so I bought a new one whilst it was apart which I think was good for power up to 220bhp. In
standard form the engine will make about 175-185bhp so a normal clutch in good condition should be fine.

Doesnt need to be uprated for that type of power in a kit car due to weight.
Should be fine upto 200 bhp.
I used a Sierra 1.6 plate in a Redtop setup at 180 bhp with no probs.

What you need is an heavy duty Pinto clutch friction plate from Burton made by AP racing.
I then used an uprated RS Turbo pressure plate which fitted onto the flywheel, mine was an ST150 fly. You can also use an early Zetec pressure
plate.
My pressure plate was made by techniclutch.
When you have your pressure plate you may need to trim the length of the fingers so they don't interfere with the thrust bearing guide tube.

I have used a h/d pinto clutch and a pinto fast road plate £155 delivered as it won't need to be changed if I want to up the power in the
future.
If a little hammer won't fix it get a bigger hammer

As mentioned above, I bought the AP racing friction and cover plate which is good to that type of power, so in a lightweight car was probably ok even
a bit higher. I bought mine from Ian at RWD so he should have all the info and part numbers as I was the first one that bought it from him (there was
a lot of buggering about as he had copied the part numbers from raceline so I bought it from them and then it didn't fit. I then found out that
this was a k series clutch and had to speak with Burtons, RWD and Raceline to make sure the next one was correct!).

I went with Ian's recommendations at RWD. I'm aiming for 210 so went for the uprated AP clutch and pressure plate.
In order to get the engine back aways, I also opted for hydraulic clutch.
Interestingly Ian doesn't supply the cylinders, so will need to order one from somewhere - any recommendations?
Thanks

Ahh - it's the master cylinder I need. RWD have supplied the slave.
It seems land or range rover cylinders are as cheap as chips - they're out there for under £15

For my conversion im using an early mondeo 1.8 zetec plate and the st150 pressure plate. I have no guide tube on gearbox so the fingers don't
get in the way.

I assume you are using a T5 box, does the ST150 plate fit that?
If you are using a hydraulic slave cylinder they have a guide tube built in which can interfere with the 'fingers'

ah yes but im using the ford mondeo v6 type slave which doesnt have the tube. Raceline sell them but you can get them new on ebay much less. Just have
to knock up a bleed hose and inlet hose. Im using a type 9 v6 capri box as it has bigger bearings. Standard fiesta st cover plate, works a treat as
ive been test driving the car, my master cylinder is too big though so very high biting point (using .75" master).

Oh and before I forget this is quite an important bolt.
Please, Please make sure if you are using a type 9 that there is a bolt in your bell housing in the position shown.
This will stop your layshaft from moving forward into the space in the back of the bell housing and dropping out causing all sorts of damage.
The original T5 Bell is flat on the back to hold the shaft in place - Something that RWD fail to explain, and sometimes forget to put the bolt in.
Titan dont either!!!

i wish mine had that bolt, may need a new gearbox now, that might explain why i sometimes had trouble finding gears and that 4th popped out a lot.
