oil level and type in a escort diff
looks like i have a oil leak on my escort axle diff, what should the oil level be and what type of oil do i use to top up?

Normally a
fill/level plug about 1/3 way up the side of the casing, most use a standard EP90 assuming its a conventional diff.

It the car has be level both side to side and fore and aft when you check it, also check the axle breather is clear.
The modern grade of oil is EP 75w/90 Hypoid Gear oil GL5 --- the GL5 specification bit is more important than the viscosity EP80 GL5 and
EP90 GL5 are also suitable.

Are you sure its OK to use GL5 in an older diff? You are vitually garanteed problems with an older gearbox if you use GL5, something to do with the
brass syncro's. I would use the stuff Ford specced when it was new.
