Fuel Pump --- Issue I Think?
Hi Lads, I need some help and advice with this one, not sure whether or not my fuel pump is faulty?
After being SORN and stored in the garage over the winter months I came to start the car, which has always been first starter, it turned over and over
and over and to no avail, next step was to get some fuel for it thinking it may be out of the texas tea. Poured a few gallon into and gave the pump a
little tap and it eventually started, ever since that day it has taken a lot longer to start but when it does it is a little erratic, then it sounds
its usual self. Just thought it was a one off.....
Today went to get it out for a bit of clean etc and it happened again, but the noise from the pump at the rear was none existent then after another
little tap and few winds of the starter the noise of the pump changed and it jumped into life and yet again a little erratic, once stated no probs.
The is a 2ltr Blacktop Zetec and is fuel injected, do these system rely on fuel pressure and if so is the pump faulty which may be causing a drop in
pressure hence the time taking to start and the erratic running at first?
Any ideas and advice is really appreciated.... Please help.....

When you turn the key you should a short 3 second bit of activity from the pump, this primes the rail and ensures theres enough pressure to start.
Its defo fuel supply so sounds like the pumps sticking, that would be the first thing to check.

if the pump isnt kicking in it wont produce pressure and without enough pressure it will run rubbish if at all, change the pump.
