Advice pls - Rebuilding a worn ford 4 spd gearbox

How practical is it to properly rebuild a gearbox at home? Does it need special kit?

TIA

I've done a few at home years ago , IIRC the only "special tool" was a dummy layshaft that enabled the lashaft bearings to be installed and held in place whilst the laygear is fitted. A piece of wooden dowel could be used if you can't get hold of a metal shaft
