Pinto Cam timing
Help needed. I've lost cam timing due to belt jump when tensioner failed. I've got a vernier cam pulley with no timing marks so I
don't know where to set it. I think that the standard timing is when the woodruff key slot on the camshaft is vertically down and the slot on
the crank is vertically up. Can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately you need to re time the cam using a cam timing disc on the crank pulley and TDC

As a rough guide...
ensure number 1 piston is at TDC.
Unluck the cam pulley and reset it to 0.
Turn the cam until the 0 mark lines up with the little hole on the head. (about 6 oclock IIRC)
Fit the belt and set the tensioner.
Turn by hand and check the belt tention.
No1 inlet should be at max opening so many degrees after TCD. Use you timing disc and paper work you got with your cam to find this out. This is the
bit were you open the vernier and make fine adjustments.

Piston fully up on compression stroke, then associated lobes point in the air evenly.
You now want to retard the crank 5 - 7 degrees, then lock the vernier for max torque and mid range.
Really need a DTI guage to set the cam upright, but laying a steel rule over the lobes and looking from the front will get it very close
When all tightened then turn engine over by hand slowly to ensure it does not bind, ie you have not mucked it up.
