28/36 dcd carb

I have on my old xflow a 28/36 dcd carb, well i thought i did!

i noticed the other day that the secondry barrel, appeared to be smaller than the primery, so had a look on line, and found i was correct
that the primary is 28mm and secondry is 36mm

But on investigation today my primary is 28mm, and my secondry is 26mm, 10mm short so to me this means when i floor the pedal my secondry barrel is only delivering a fraction of air compaired to the primary one

So. if i was to replace the secondry (and very small) barrel with either a piece of alui tube or a correct 36mm venturi, i should have a better airflow and more power ??

I do hope this makes sense, as it does to me, but then ......

What!!!!!

That sounds decidedly Heath Robinson , you could replace the choke with the correct parts or have the choke machined to that larger diameter keeping the original shape .

Then you would obviously have to re-jet to suit as you will be running incredibly weak as you would getting more air but only the same amount of fuel.

Weak= no power , running hot , holed pistons etc !

But done correctly it would be quite an improvement.

The old Formula Fords didnt go too bad on those carbs!

28/36 DCD original fitment was to MK1 Cortina (pre Xflow) But still a Damned good carb. (especially on a Xflow)

Are you sure that it wasn't set up like that for the original fitment?. I understood that the choke size designation is just the maximum possible size able to be fitted. The secondary choke might not necessarily be bigger than the primary as it works in addition to it .
I have a 32dft carb and manifold that was on my 1600 cross flow and was fitted to the original xr3 carb version and xr2 as far as I know but don't think both chokes are 32mm.
