Zetec - Dunnell Engines

Hi

Has anyone had experience with using Dunnell Engines?

I notice they do a complete Zetec-E package.

Cheers

Mike

I used a dunnell ignition only ECU on a car, worked fine, all pre-mapped etc
And in the garage I have a dunnell/jenvey setup for a zetec. I bought it used, and intend fittin it to my project when the rest of the car is ready...

I have spoken to Paul Dunnell a few times, he is easy going and extremely knowledgeable, not at all cheap, but you get a feeling of buying a quality product that does what it says. This is not always the case with suppliers, so can be worth the extra cash.

The stuff he sells is not easily remapped by the end user, however, Dunnell will load a map onto an ecu to match the engine spec. Whilst many will argue this is not ideal, it is exactly what is done by oem manufacturers, and means the car will have a decent, accurate and driveable map, and hasn't been done by somebody who wants to turn he car around asap so he can get onto the next one. Horses for courses I suppose, so may not be uitable if you want a DIY type of setup and want to fiddle with it.

I've spoken to Paul once, at length. He's very knowledgeable, friendly, and lives for his product. What's more impressive is that he makes all his stuff in house on his own CNC gear - no selling through.

I loved the work he's done around the duratecs - all his packaging is really compact and neat - a lesson to others.

Great to deal with as above, again aimed at motorsport and the price isnt any worse than other of the shelf products. But it will still make yours eyes water

Hi

Had many dealings with them over the years regarding customers engines in race cars.

Over priced and vastly over rated. Check out most off the uprated parts he sells. Standard Ford parts wit part numbers removed. Uprated valve springs, standard For items but 3 X the price.

Cheers Matt

They seem quite comparable to Omex for a similar set-up.

I've heard good things about Omex, wanted to see what Dunnell would be like as an alternative for the Striker.

That's one of my concerns with the weber alpha set up for mine, whilst i got it for a bargain it may be a pain finding someone to set it up.

I guess this is only an issue when I come to upgrade anything? As it should all be mapped correctly depending what I order?

By setting up you mean mapping or wiring the whole thing in?

Mapping is usually a common cost to most tuners if they are knowledgeable on the software in hand. If its the more up-to-date type of ECU then your `local` guys should charge you their `flat fee` or there abouts.

Mine was the old version that had to have a new chip flashed and installed which could only be done at Northapton

It cost 550 quid and had to tell them to stop as i ran out of time so wasnt perfect.

In comparison i have just purchased a new Emerald and was mapped from scratch for £450.
