Far better without my exhaust
So, i done a trackday the other day and all was going very well, car felt quick, plenty of punch out the corners etc...
Just as i passed the pit entrance i heard the exhaust pop off, problem i've had a couple of times where the Akropovic titanium can slips off the
link pipe,
Anyway i decided to keep at it for the 4 and a bit mile lap and the car was transformed, it felt like she was reving alot quicker and certainly felt
faster?
Now i'm wondering if the Akropovic was causing a restriction or if it's all in my head?
MNR with an early carbed R1 motor,
any input from anyone?

Also, try removing your dampers (like Mr Whippy a few posts below) might improve things.
Although he was refering to an old Land Rover.

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

forget buying new parts, just remove the old ones

Most exhausts will cause some level of restriction but it's equally possible that shortening the system just changed the efficiency in the
region you were using by changing resonances? Excluding the ability to use resonance effects to actively empty the cylinders, exhausts and their
associated restriction are only detrimental to performance.

what i'm trying to determine is the best way forward...
i'd have expected the Akropovic exhaust to be upto the job but now i'm doubting it.
so
do i fit the replacement Akropovic can i already have, or I'm thinking about having Simpson Exhausts or similar make me a proper system but with
that comes a fairly hefty price tag,
decisions decisions...

Sounds louder, but impossible to tell from those two laps if its faster. Theire are just too many varibles -gentle thru first few bends on out lap
traffic on second lap. Cant even really string 2-3 bends together when playing the laps simultanously that dont have some sort of obvious variation.

You will get faster and smoother as time goes on, was the can completely open or baffled?
If baffled then expect it to be better, if straight through and the same diameter as the manifold exit then it will make little difference so in your
head.

Confused but excited.

That's what Mr. Chapman said and he went a lot quicker.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

There's a piece of cake way to tell, assuming it's a road legal car. Take it to a car park and do a few 0-60s with a smartphone
accelerometer. Average the results with and without, then leave before the plod show up.

Hi
There's a lot off effort to be put into a silencer design if it is to be quiet whilst not loosing power. It is something that most overlook. But
on the race cars it is something we take quite seriously. even when we have a Max DB level off 105 it is hard to get a race engine down to that limit
especially if running wild camshafts Etc.
In the end we found it easier to make our own rather than having to rely on others to try and supply silencers which would never work or need
repacking every five minutes. Also the material used to make the silencer casing has to be selected also, Stainless is not a good material to use if
trying to reduce the Db. Most off ours are made in aluminum and only contain steel for the Perf ( stainless ) and outer fixings. Also tail pipe design
needs to be looked at as that's an area where you can create extra noise by being too big/bling.
Cheers Matt
