Car strip down started

Nasty coolant!

Engine out

Quick build car stand from some spare steel

All bodywork off & aluminium panels being removed

Lining up R1 engine for position. Helps if you have a big forklift!!

Temp frame made up for engine to allow us to make lower mounts then top removable frame

Bead blasted the aluminium tank to get it nice & clean!

R1 fuel pump for fitting to tank. Only slight issue is this pump does not have bolt holes for fitting. Needs a top ring made to clamp both together

Bought some nice Brembo calipers for a good price

FAIL! Underestimated just how big these are. Way to big in size and braking power for the MK. You need at least 16" wheels for these calipers. Going to go for either the standard Sierra front calipers or some wilwoods.

These are the wishbones brakes etc removed from the car. Original Sierra calipers look new. Wishbones are the early style and would like to replace with either MK new style from the oval tube, or rose jointed adjustable.

Rear drums & driveshafts. Going to replace drums with disc brakes

Nice wheels & tyres were with the car & are all brand new

Differential. 7" sierra with 3.62 almost standard ratio. No good for the R1 engine. So planning to change diff or crown & pinion. Early push in driveshafts on the 7" diff but should be fine for this application.

Couple of repairs to rear wings. Rear lights were fitted here. Changing for different style rear lights

Zetec engine & gearbox now on ebay along with twin webbers gauges etc

Box of engine bits! Engine is actually from FZ1 2007, which is a slightly altered R1 5VY unit. FZ1 engine has slightly heavier crankshaft & camshafts have different duration & lift for midrange.

Throttle bodies

Wiring loom with coded lockset. Unfortunately ignition lock & reader damaged in frontal accident. But we have the key with immobiliser chip as these run coded ECU. Slight damage to the loom too
