Early v8 on carbs is a woeful thing, low compression 8.1 (I think, may be 8.3) small valves, small duration cam and to cap it off if you remove the
carbs there are restrictor plates lurking behind the butterflies.
The compression is created by bigger dishes in the pistons, the rest is easy to sort although with the price of stuff these days a straight swap for a
3.9 EFI engine is the way to go
EFI is easy to sort as the loom is self contained, just needs switched battery and earth.
