Blacktop Broken

In between alternator issues, I thought I would get my next project engine onto the engine stand so I can clear out the garage a bit and maybe start slowtime strip-down of the engine.

It was one I got cheap (off here IIRC) and the car it came from was a water damaged write-off.

No history on it other than that. It turns over by hand but there was a 'clink' a couple of times when I turned it so time for a quick 'look see' as you do, and I noticed that #2 piston ain't doing the uppy downy thing. So I guess either the gudgeon pin holder on the piston has gone or the conrod has broken.

At least I now know that a strip down is a good idea!

I know people are going to say "just get another engine" but I'll see what transpires first and keep my eyes out for replacement internals. I am in no hurry for it anyhow so it will give me a project while I'm waiting to afford the next car

If you're going the strip down route, it may be just as cost-effective to build something a little special...

i recently picked up a free blacktop in kit form off a member here, only wanted a few bits so think i might have a set of rods if you need them, i got the engine FOC on the basis that any bits i moved on were also FOC so if you want them there yours, the workshop is in Market Drayton so not a million miles from Burton, ill be there Saturday if you wanted them. In fact ythinking about it you could have the whole bottom end.

Yep, my thoughts too. Water doesn't tend to compress too well does it?
