Advice please and hopefully a answer

Hi all
I hope some one can come up with the right answer
When driving the indy when i lift off the throttle there is a rattle noise coming from the gearbox / clutch area
If i dip the clutch while it's making the noise the noise stops
But the gearbox /prop diff axle is still turning
What do you all think it will be causing the noise

The noise is not there while its driving under load

The engine is a pinto - type9 gearbox - sierra diff
Could it be bearings in the gearbox ?

Hi Buddy

Is it the release bearing chattering against the clutch cover?

Try adjusting the cable a bit to take out most of the slack to see if that does the trick - it did on mine

Cheers

Rattle

Hi
It the release bearing knackered
You need to fit a new one,
Putting it up against the pressure plate will stop the rattle but will shag the pressure plate if the bearing seizes.
Good luck

Have you tried adjusting the slack out of the clutch cable? IIRC someone posted about the same problem recently

the rattle is gone, it would appear to have been the thrust bearing fork being badly adjusted and this has been cured by a capri clutch cable with built in adaptor.

the oil i used is a bit thicker than the standard spec and this has resulted in a clunky change when cold.

unfortunatley the test drive was limited to 5 miles as there is now an over heating problem. a leak some where, but it is too dark to see now.

many thanks for all the advice lads

Earlier reply said thrust bearing knackered, I think not.
Thrust bearings tend to make noise when clutch depressed not when free
I also think its a simple loose cable.

Yeh, I'd agree with the cable stretching a bit, maybe worth checking it's not fraying anywhere as I about to snap before taking the slack out?

Cheers
