Inter cooler Type and mounting position

Gents

Looking at the next stage in fitting a inter cooler and pipework in an MK Indy (zetec turbo)
and mounting the cooler ideally in front of the radiator.

I would like options of tried and tested inter cooler and what donor vehicles can be used boost pipe etc.

I,m trying to do the conversion with a reasonable budget so nothing too fancy but I want it to look right.

Any pics and advice appreciated

Thanks In Advance.

I've been thinking about fitting one of these to my s/c set-up VW PASSAT/SKODA SUPERB 1.8 TURBO/T.D INTERCOOLER NEW WITH SENSOR HOLE-2 YR WRNTY | eBay
Couple of things - i/cooler should ideally be mounted in front of the water rad - tight up against it to min. disturbance of the air flow to the water rad.

Pipework needs to be pretty rigid as the pipes can suck in restricting flow. IIRC there's footage on youtube of it happening to ordinary piping.
HTH - be interested to know how it goes.

If money's tight I can do you one of those Passat 1.8T air-air intercoolers with a couple of OEM pipes and a shroud attached for £22 delivered. Second hand of course (12-ish years old) but fully working and carefully removed from the donor car.

Do a search. You will find that many are custom made jobbies, that I am certain cost quite a bit. It is difficult to fit an intercooler/Rad and piping under the nosecone. Check DRC Indy 7's build. I'll do a link to his pics. Voila!

Try contacting www.pumabuild.co.uk as they are replacing quite a few ST OE intercoolers with Radtec coolers, so they might have an old ST intercooler for sale. They might also have a set of EO hoses as again quite a few upgrade the hoses.

They are a good ford specialist that created my 350bhp Mk Focus RS and they also tuned my Mk2 Focus St to around 300 bhp for me.

I had successfully mounted a RX7 V mount intercooler under the nose of my MNR. Unfortunately I didnt take any pics before I sold the car...

Great thanks for the info guys, been looking again tonight, there's not much room to mount a
cooler and to make things worse the inlet manifold faces the scuttle!!
