Clutch Plate Options, NA Cosworth
Just been over to york raceway rwyb this morning and the clutch threw the towel in. Limped back home with no clutch, engine out and part of the clutch
plates friction material had broken out, moved round and jammed the clutch up.
It was a helix organic competition cossy clutch and it's been in there about 10 years so i'm not complaining.
I do rwyb meetings with the car and normally (not today) use nitrous/drag tyres as well, but it is also used on the road quite a bit. If i give it the
full beans off the line there's normally a slight clutch smell.
Do i just replace the clutch (organic helix or AP uprated) or go for a 6 plate paddle (i believe they're less aggressive than a 4 paddle?) ???
anyone with experience or recomendations?.
I'll get soemthing ordered on Monday morning

Hi Ian
Helix organic's are a pretty good allrounder and would be nicer to use on the road than the paddle type imo
Paddle's can sometimes be a bit 'agressive' on the flywheel aswell
If the organic has lasted 10 years and you still want to use it on the road, i'd be inclined to stick with it

Hopefully yours didn't look as bad as this one from a mates Westfield that we did awhile ago
This happened at Curborough and part of it embedded itself in the belhousing
(Since replaced with an uprated Helix organic and so far its been fine)

No, mine isn't quite as impressive as that!;-
Your probably right though, i got about 10 years (around 35k) out of it and for what it's used for i suppose it's done very well really.
Measuring the worn face down to the rivets there's just under 1mm left so it was fairly worn any way.
Before that i had 4 puk paddle, and it was pig to drive in traffic. I threw it in the bin after 6 months, it ruined 'normal' driving of
the car, absolutely fine if i wanted to do a racing start into a parking space!
That's why i was looking at the only other realistic option of 6 puks which are meant to be a bit more friendly.
