Ford Crossflow Crank - (re-grinding)

Hi all,

After removing the old bearings to replace for some nice new ones in an x flow, I have discovered that the crank is a little worn (as to be expected). It's not terrible but has a very slight lip under where the bearing sits. Whilst I am in the process of rebuilding this engine over the winter would it be worth getting the crank re ground?

What can I expect to pay for such a job? And where can anyone recommend to get this done.

Thanks

N

In a word, yes. That way the engine will last much longer. No idea of who can do the work in your area but Burton in Ilford are very well known in the Ford tuning world.

yes get it ground to the next bearing size, it doesn't cost that much (not sure what the going rate is at the moment)

while its there you might want to ask about a full ballance of the bottom end (~£100 I think)
they should match the weight of all the pistons & rods aswell as dynamicly ballancing the crank, flywheel and clutch cover together

Thanks - any ideas where to go for this? Ideally I did not want to ship the whole engine around the country - but needs must if I get it balanced too.

I know were I'd take it up here, but that would be a 16+ hour round trip for you

burtons will do it, but I don't know were I'd go down in your part of the world...

there is bound to be a decent engine builder near you (some on here will know who) - or if in doubt try and find out who the stock car or other racers near you use/recommend
