thinking of losing mechanical fuel pump

Due to a few issues with the mechanical fuel system im thinking over winter changing to electric pump.

Im running a weber dgav on a pinto in my robin hood but may soon change to bike carbs.

what would you recommend me to fit. ive seen various facet pumps some solid state and i know i need a pressure regulator

is it worth doing this for starters and would i need to change the piperwork or anything.

Is the pump best off next to tank or near engine bay to save wiring routing.

any info appreciated. also rough cost of doing this

wait til you do the bike carb conversion, and fit the bike carbs and bike fuel pump. it'll already run the right pressure, no need for regulators and stuff, saves doing the job twice

i went for bike carbs, with sytec regulator and facet interrupter pump, but you're much easier going for the bike pump with bike carbs

well, there are what i got
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FACET-SYTEC-ADJUSTABLE-FUEL-PRESSURE-REGULATOR-6MM-/260967885010#vi-content

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/facet-fuel-pump-hot-rod-autograss-custom-race-car-/300822035847?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item460a63fd87

the regulator goes down to 1.5psi, i forget what bike carbs need, its 1.5 or 3psi i think... not sure, but it goes down far enough anyway, but as to how steady they are at keeping the right pressure, and how accurate they are, i don't know

I have had two facet square block type pumps fail and one injection pump. I have also had the facet bullet style filter block. I carry a spare of each these days. You will also need a pressure regulator and an electrical cut-out, either impact or oil pressure activated.
The pinto mechanical fuel pump is simple, cheap, effective and usually very reliable. It fuelled twin 40's on my pinto for 20,000 miles plus before I went zetec injection. What fuelling issues have you had?

every time i go to start it the fuel has dropped out of the lines. so have to pump it on the starter.
plus i will be going for bike carbs in the future and have some time over winter.

Buy a bike pump and see if it works with the Weber. If not you save it for when you get bike carbs.

just fitted a ZX9R pump to my xflow engined Striker. Cost me £15 inc del for the pump and 2-3hrs to mess around making a bracket

it's not running yet, but I have fuel to the carbs now and they're not leaking. Remains to be seen if it will run ok with the pump tho

Hi .

I went over to a Facet silver top pump and pressure reg, filter king. Have 45 Webers on a 2l pinto and it works very well no issues all last season on hill climbs. cost approx £60 for the pump and same for the pressure reg , which has a removable gauge for exact setting.
