Asking this on behalf of a mate who's started building a MEV Rocket, and I know little about these new fangled big heavy car engines so just
need to be able to assist him a bit with the wiring etc.
He already stripped a Focus 1.8 for all it goodies and bought a brand new crate 2.0 zetec engine and the engine and box are joined up and in ehe
rolling chassis
The intention is to strip back the excess from original wiring loom and then run it with the original key, lock and ECU until such time as its passed
IVE and can upgrade
My question is, is this possible?
If so any pointers to wiring issues? (Im thinking of immobiliser issues perhaps?)
Is this going to be tuneable for IVA emissions in any way or is this exactly why peoples use aftermarket ECU's ?
Your friend needs to look on the dedicated MEV forum, and talk to MEV or RTR whoever supplied the kit, i belive they are most helpful.
What hes asking is possible, lots have used OEM ECU kets ect
Appreciate the response mate , but its really me that's asking the question so I can be better able to advise my mate (who has no PC and is
deaf)
I Just need to know the basic answers to the questions, which are not really MEV specific
Other than needing the 2.0 manual ecu and chip from the key what he wants do do is more than posable. In fact I do it all the time and am working on a
2004 st170 ecu at the moment.

Thanks in advance.
BEC Col!
1) sure is.
2) you have to use the immobilizer. Mev used to provide instructions and an interface at extra cost.
2) You will need a cat and sensors it had in the focus and it will give the same emissions as it did in the focus.
People use afermarket ecu's for two reasons.
1) People dont like wiring !
2) Power is very adictive and after market ecu will give you around 10% ish on a standard engine.
An omex will set you back ~£600, loom ~£100, Dyno time ? sky is the limit.
ive paid £10 for a loom at the scrap yard around £30 for an ecu and one key. It doesnt need tuning and will pass iva or mot as it did in the donor
"IF" all the sensors and parts are healthy as they should.
I prefer the engine harness in a mondeo as its much more stand alone. You wire around 20 pins of a 42 pin plug and away it goes and theloom lends
itself to a midi better than a 7 but the ecu does sit anear the O/S rear light cluster.
I have a 2L ecu and two chips if he wants one £35 posted he may need to move some of the pins in the ecu plug. I would need to go through it to be
sure.
