Crossflow breathing
Hi guys
rebuilt my engine about to install
Question
whats the best way to let it breath
Am going to install a Oil capture tank
Out of origional engine breather to rocker cover then back out of rocker cover at other end, then straight to catch tank
was told that I may have to modify origional beather as as standard there is a restriction in out let (also a none return valve)
Do I just take out the none return valve

Burton power do an aluminium elbow that replaces the pcv valve and breather that's standard on a crossflow. Do as you say or create two separate
breathers, one from the crank case and one from the rocker cover.

The crank case gets most of the pressure so routing through the rocker is a good idea, this captures most of the oil and sends it back to the sump.
One out from rocker to catch tank is ok just make sure your feed pipes are the same diameter from block to rocker and from rocker to catch tank.
Breather cap or filter on the catch tank should also be same or larger diameter.

Ran my x-flow with the standard block breather with valve removed for 15 years. Pipe to bottle from breather and another pipe form rocker cover to
bottle. Never had an issue. On the road no oil in the bottle but on the track it would breath about an inch in the day when wet sumped, once dry
sumped no oil in the bottle. If I overfilled when wet sumped the excess oil ended up in the bottle.
