Rolling road carb setup in Derbyshire/S.Yorkshire
I want to get the ZX9R carbs set up, post IVA. Noble Motorsport in Chesterfield have quoted between £2-300.
Is this a fair price? Anyone else know somewhere cheaper?

They are the favourite, but a fair distance to Malton from here, with the carb setup an unknown quantity

Try Russ at Torque tune (07976961442), based in Ollerton, just across the road from GBS factory.
I have used him several times, also several others in the area have as well. He knows his way around a carb (old skool) and specialises in bike carb
set ups. Can't recommend him highly enough. Place is a bit run down, but don't let appearances decieve you. Last year he did my bike carb
set up and engine tune, cost me £140, spent 5hrs doing it and came out with 132bhp at the wheels (160bhp at flywheel) which ain't bad for a
mildly tuned newly rebuilt 2.0l pinto....

Russ knows his bikes and his cars. Does a cracking job, good banter and will take time to explain anything you want. Old Skool so no fancy print outs
to brag about silly HP down the pub but your car will run as sweet as a nut. Think he charged me £150 and took it from 62bhp at the wheels to 110bhp.
Not a bad ££ per BHP gain

I think I will give them a try as I probably need my carbs setting up for my xflow engine.

Nobles in Chesterfield were great up until about 2001 when John Noble left. The new people who took over totally messed my car up. The young kids did
not have a clue about Webers.
In the North Derbyshire area I have used Clive Bussey at Autotronix just off Junction 30 M1. Trained by John Noble he is very good, understands Webers
and his mother makes decent tea.
Close by junction 30 is JP Autotechnic run by a father and 2 sons. They have an ancient rolling road but understand Webers. Only found out about them
when I needed someone to check my Weber Alpha set up, they were agents at the time, charged £60 for about 3 of hours work back in 1999. Car was spot
on.

Before I take my car to TorqueTune are there any recommended fixes/things to check for the following:
I have a 1.3 xflow fitted with ZZR600 carbs and fuel pump (standard jets etc). The car starts with some choke, has a rough idle and once warm
splutters when you apply some throttle and sometimes it stalls. Any ideas?

ive just had my bike carb pinto engined 2B set up at autotronix in dinnington.
re jet and set up went from 85 to 115 bhp and cost less than 100 quid.
Understeer , when the front hits a wall
Oversteer, when the back hits a wall
Horsepower ,how fast you hit the wall
Torque ,how far you take the wall with you

Clive at Autotronix gets my vote, great little family run business, never been anything but helpful. The buggy is going there for mapping when
it's ready.

Went to Autotronix in the end, yesterday, can highly recommend them. Went from 124bhp at 9200rpm to 135bhp at 10500rpm.
But the biggest difference is the drivabilty, it pulls away from a standstill easily without the need to rev at 4000rpm, no hole between
3-4000 and pulls like a train from 30mph in 6th.
Cost £96, worth every penny, only downside is you that have to leave the car, they don't have a waiting area.

Ended up there for a spot of lunch, nice stroll there and back, weather couldn't have been better. The drive home was better than the stroll
though

There's a pub right behind it, so long as you don't mind a liquid lunch and some KP nuts

What, nobody suggesting Peter Burgess at Alfreton?
I went for some guidance/advice/help several years ago against the advice of a local club racer, unfortunately I cant say if he's any good as I
didn't get past the appalling attitude to a potential customer and (on that particular day) the place was a complete mess.
In the interest of fairness (I'm a very fair guy) has anyone had any better experience there or did I catch them on an off day?

Nope, that sounds normal from my personal experience.
I went to him years ago when the pinto was fitted and I felt as though it was just too much hassle for him to be interested in.
I know of another person who went to him and got treated the same as well so I wasn't suprised to read scar's post!
but to balance things up....
He did do a cracking job on the pinto (twin webers) and I have heard from a good 6 or 7 people that he is a v8 genius / guru and so I'm torn
whether of not to go back to him now that the V8 is up and running.
I got a much better service from dynotech in Ripley and they are also a megasquirt dealer so was really good at setting up my megajolt on the
RR....problem with them though is that they don't let you stay with the car whilst they are doing the work!

No problem with that, a helpful and friendly mess I understand and can live with, I always seem to be fighting a loosing battle against the chaos
gremlins whilst the talented remain annoyingly calm and organised.
A belittling, superior attitude however always deserves a smack in the mouth, just a view on life in general.

Russ @ torque tune worked his magic on my car and got 72 bhp @ 5,800 rpm. Not bad for a 1.3 xflow
He certainly knows how to setup bike carbs on a car engine, so I can definately recommend his services.
Went for a blast afterwards on their private road so happy!

What can I say - Russ is truly amazing. Just got back from having my carb set up on my Harley Sportster 1200 conversion and its amazing. Although
Russ said it only needed a "tweak", the difference is staggering. Even more grunt at the bottom end, but more importantly it runs so
smooth, cheers Russ. You'll find his website at: http://www.torquetune.co.uk/index.php/contact-us
