vauxhaul C20ne to ford 2.8 type9 clutch

Hi,

New to the site so dont shoot if this topic has been previously brought up.

Im rebuilding an old Locost with a Vauxhaul 2.0 8v C20NE block to a ford type 9 out of a V6 Capri. I have the bellhousing adapter and ive turned the input shaft down so its the same as a standard type 9.

The problem I am facing is that the C20NE friction plate doesnt suit the splines on the type 9, and the type 9 friction plate doesnt fit the pressure plate from the C20NE.... GGRRRRR

Has anyone done this conversion before and if so what friction plate was used in the clutch?

Any/All help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Josh

Follow any guideance for fitting as C20XE, its much more common and will share the C20NEs setup as all the bigblock vauxhall lumps are interchangeable.

Theres two different sizes of sierra clutch. I cant remember the sizes, and I cant find the link on here to the list diameters...

You need a ford clutch plate which fits the same splines on the gearbox, and is the same diameter as the pressure plate off the vauxhall engine

From what I remember, ford sierra diesel 2.3 plates are 235mm, and all the other sierras are 215mm I think? For the red top you need the diesel plate, my ecotec uses one of the others. But use the ford clutch plate, and the rest from the vauxhall and it should all go easy enough
I just wish I could find the list

EDit, this link works. You only want the clutch plate, not the whole kit, but it tells you the diameters for various engine, you should find one to match http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/Ford_Sierra_Clutch%20Kits.aspx

From memory a ford sierra diesel as already posted. Cannot remember if its an 18 or 23 spline shaft centre though.

ETA I think its from a 2.3 diesel with an 18 spline shaft.

Thanks for your replys, most helpful.

The diameter of the friction plate needs to be 220mm with a 1" 23 spline center...

Unfortunately the C20XE uses a 228mm clutch ... thus its not quite as simple as first thought!

I guess ill just have to keep trawling google for a clutch that will fit, either that or swap to an XE.

I went with the 215mm, its only 5mm out, or to put it another way, when lined up old and new, only 2.5mm difference at the edge. Barely noticable, and completely fine

Cheers guys, think that's what I'm going to do.. 2.5mm isn't anything to worry about in my opinion. Really appreciate the help.
