Do I need an oil catch tank ??
I will be running my 1.8 silvertop zetec with 130bhp cams, gsxr 600 throttle bodies & I have a megasquirt ecu to plumb in too.
Do I need an oil catch tank ? Im only asking because I might have access to a free one.
As you can tell, im a bit of a numpty with this engine malarky !
Give a man a fish & it will feed him for a day, give him a fishing rod & you've saved a fish.

Need, no, you can just run the breather to atmosphere.
However, you will need one if doing a trackday, and it allows you to see what is been breathed.
I made mine from a 1liter metal fuel bottle, pipe into the neck, second hole in the, pipe out over the side.

I seem to recall the iva needing catch tanks too. Pipes aren't permitted straight to air as that suggests you will leave oil on the ground.
(they should meet my rover v8!)

You aren't allowed the oil breather going to atmosphere. It can either go into a catch can, or back into the inlet manifold, like on production
cars.

On my Blacktop the oil breather goes into the air filter back plate. Never had any sign of anything coming out even on track days.

Fair enough, mines pre-sva, so not a consideration as such.

Great stuff, I think I will fit one just incase to keep IVA man happy.
We bought a catch tank from OBP to make a prototype instrument at work, since we have been producing the instrument for over a year now (with a
completely different shaped tank), the prototype has been sat in a cupboard, I spoke to my boss today & he said take it home :-)
Looks like I will be removing it tomorrow lunchtime, nice one & very locost !
