How long will it take to fit a raceline sump?
Hello,
How long will it take to fit a Raceline Wet sump to a Zetec Black top 2ltr (with 2 part sump) that is in a Luego Velocity XT?
As a garage have quoted me 4-6 hours labour??

They are taking the wee wee. I could do it on my back on the drive in a couple of hours. A garage should have that swapped in an hour tops. You may
have to wait a few hours for gasket sealant to cure (if used) but they shouldnt charge labour for any cure time.

6 hours pay me
I take it you have a cut and shut two piece sump and you are swapping to the cast race line sump ?
To remove.
Disconnect the battery and remove the three m10 bolts on the starter.
The metal lower half has around 20 screws.
Breaking the sealant is the hardest part.
Two torx screws for the pick up pipe.
Loads more bolts for the metal half.
This may sit just inside the bell housing dust cover but there are no bolts hiding.
Your new sump will have a baffle. It will either bolt to the sump or to the big end bearing caps with longer bolts and spacers.
The latter will need torqueing up.
Wash the new sump out. The race line sump will have a gasket with only a tiny bit of sealant applied at the edge of the water pump/block and rear
crank seal housing /block.
Only nip the bolts back up.
Fill with oil.
job done.
I would think an hour would be plenty. If he needs more because he doesn't know what he is doing then you may aswell do it your self.
edit two.
Get a new gasket for the pick up pipe .

It's the original 2 part sump as its a crated engine with only 500 miles on it and is in the car at the moment but should think all is accusable
with engine in if on a ramp.

A ramp is a luxury. I got to use one for the first time last week when I did the clutch on a Nissan Sky line.
Yours is an easy job on the drive with it on stands.

I fitted mine in the garage lying on my back with the car on a pair of ramps in about 3 hours.
It only took that long because I couldn't get the old sump off without hacking the engine to bell housing metal shield to bits.
