Megasquirt build: I don't want PWM or IAC, what to do?

Hi there, I have got to the point of the build MS2 V3 where I need to decide if I will be using an IAC or PWM solenoid valve. I think with the number of times I will use the car versus the benefit of installing either solenoid suggests I don't install either! i will just use a bit of throttle to get the engine warm. Can I just miss out installing all components for the IAC and PWM on the megasquirt board? If not, then which should I install?

To be honest most engines will run fine without any idle control valve. Unless you have AC that will be putting a variable load on the engine. There is a setting in MS2 called cold advance that will bump up the ignition timing when the engine is cold which will keep the need for feathering the throttle.

Nowt on mine, the cold enrichments sort the fuelling I just feather the throttle for a minute until it idles on its own.

You can miss them out, but there is a link wire which connects to the daughter board pins which is a 12v supply to serve the IAC. It is reccomened this is installed as it helps to keep the chip cool.





Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Great! Do you know which specific 12v inputs you are referring to? I want to make sure I'm getting the right ones. I have a quote from step 22 on the assembler guide.
"you must install a jumper from the hole marked S12C to the hole marked JS9 (+12C)". Is that the jumper you mean?

That's it I didn't fit it at first but read somewhere it was needed to stop the chip overheating so added it before I ran the engine.

You can just populate the board and turn the feature off in the software, that's what I did. Pwm idle control seems to be better than stepper from my experience.
