ZETEC engine number ?

I am trying to identify my zetec engine (may need for SVA) i'm pretty sure uts a 1.8 130 bhp xr3i / gti. only problem is i am finding difficulty locating a date related identification. can anyone help - where are the numbers on the block (photo ?), and a source of data to enable verification thereafter.

i do have what i believe is a part number for block and head, and it has a big 1.8 on it !

any help apreciated

Look exhaust side of the engine where the engine meets the bellhousing - engine number is stamped on the upper edge of the flange on mine.

Ford engine info can be found here...

BTW, the big 1.8 means it is a 1.8 - my 2litre has 2.0 on it.

ive searched pretty well on these lines before. i think i may need to get the paint stripper out, as the guy who had it previous has put plenty on. i was hoping to get an accurate location so as to minimise paint removal. ive looked at the sylva site before, but it hasn,t helped much. i may be able to see better once shes takn back out of the car (only in temp at moment)

cheers for your help anyway

My 2 litre seems to have the engine number put on using more of an etching process rather than physical stamping. I'm sure in a few years down the line this will be very difficult to read. I've checked other cars of a similar age with zetecs and they are similar.

Cheers

Thanks for that - it wont take me a thousand words now to tell you that mine is covered in black hamerite !! - if its etched on, i may have to go gently with some paint stripper - i'll let you know how i get on - thanks chaps
