Gearbox mount

My gearbox moves around a bit much for my liking.

It's MX5 engine and box. I used an MX5 engine mount for the gearbox mount simply because it screwed into a convenient hole. The engine is mounted on uprated MX5 mounts.

I guess one choice is to use an uprated engine mount and swop it.

My other thought was to use a wishbone bush with outer sleeve and crush tube. Weld the outer tube to a plate bolted to the box then use a U shaped piece (wishbone mount) welded to the chassis. Then bolt the 2 together.

Stiffer the better really as it's mostly a track car.

Any thoughts?

You could always add a torque reaction tie bar with a fairly stiff rubber bush at each end between bell housing bolts and the chassis.

Aha! excellent idea!

I have an engine damper already, but hadn't thought of that.

Should be somewhat easier to do too.

Thanks

Made these for a MX5 gearbox. The rubber bobbins are leyland daf gearbox mounts (if I remember correctly). My car is not on the road yet so can't comment on how good or bad they are. Similar design to the MX5 based Westfield.

Thanks

That looks good. I could retro fit that quite easily.
