Lotus 907 into westfield
What are people thoughts on the lotus 907 16v (Esprit/Elite) engine fitted into a seven type car? Has anyone fitted one?
I have a 2.0 pinto powered westfield and also a spare complete 907 engine lifted straight out of a Lotus Elite I have kept for a spare for my esprit
but have never needed it. Surely it's going to be a vast improvement over the pinto, All alloy construction, 160bhp as standard?
I quite fancy the idea of a proper Lotus engine in a Lotus inspired replica, kind of period too as my westfield is BRG/minilites/burgundy etc
I've searched all over and managed to turn up one photo of a 907 in a westfield so I know it fits but wondered if anyone here has direct
experience of it (I have sourced a type9 bellhousing conversion for the 907)

Certainly a Seductive idea.
But do note that these were Rubbish! engines. By any yardstick.
Careful in what you wish for.

+1 on that, I believe he thinks he's smart with the cryptic type replies that contribute absolutely nothing and help nobody.
I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

+2 on that, I've noticed he never comes back to defend / justify his comments when slagged off. He clearly accepts what an annoying social
skill-less tool he is
Back on thread- 907 in a Westy sounds a spiffing idea to me, if you've got one sat there then why the hell not

An official licensed version of the Seven S4 (Caterham were not the only S4 licensees) with the 907 was produced in NZ --- only a handful were
built.
It is true however it is not the best engine in the world really just a rich man's toy as they are expensive to rebuild and are bit fragile
unless the RPM limits are very strictly adhered and the power output is also pretty modest compared to even 1990s tin top engines.

A few years ago there was a Dutton at Stoneleigh with the lotus engine!
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

He could have put it less explosively but he is 100% correct in his opinion however I suspect the OP may already be well aware of pains of owning a
Lotus engine.

The OP did not ask if the engine was any good, he did did say he had one and noted that it was more powerful than a pinto out the box.
So in the true spirit of locost, use what you have, I,m sure it will make a nice car.

Being an Esprit owner British Trident is correct in that I'm only too familiar with the lotus 907! I'm aware of the early engines
reputation however mine has been excellent in my esprit and there are a couple of specialists who can iron out most of the problems. Plus in a
westfield maintenance (and repair!) should be fairly straightforward compared to the Esprit-I tried to change the cam belt in situ once- gave up on
that one straight away and took the engine out!
Yes I could stick a Zetec in it and be like everyone else but I fancy doing something a bit different. Plus it is a good looking engine, especially if
my plan how I'm going to fit it works out!
