Pilot bearing built into propshaft
I have been racking my breans for a solution to this issue and i have found someone that has done it before but i am not sure of how they have done
it. Do any of you guys have any ideas??
The ford Type e gearbox requires a pilot bearing on the input shaft and that needs to be built into the propshaft. The only way i can think of doing
it is to have a bearing that runs on the nose cone and another bearing in the the prop end that supports the nose of the shaft.
The pictures show the prop that has already been converted for use like this:
This is how i invisage the support shaft working.....can anyone pick fault with this?

That looks to me like they has just supported the first motion shaft on the outside of the box, the UJ just slides to the knuckle.
If you can find a prop that uses the same spline Linky like a landrover
prop halfway down the page link page you separate the UJ at both ends then throw away the ends and join what's left together, end on end end,
you now have female slide connected to the tube.
Alternatively get a couple of old clutch driven plates and a sierra two piece prop, cut the prop 4" from the end of the centre knuckle, machine
out the splined centres of the driven plates so they are a nice snug fit in the open tube, push one 3" in and plug weld, and the second one sits
at the open end. Voila
Get a little gearbox from something like a reliant, 4th gear should be straight through, third becomes a weak step up and reverse if you run
backwards.
A landrover series gearbox has a bell housing you can unbolt and remove the transfer box,
G
earbox, Ali case weighs very little on its own so could provide a smaller solution, these handle v8 power so should be up to decent bike engines
level of torque, if no step up required lose the lay shaft as reverse is a seperate cog off the main shaft from what I remember.

Thanks for the reply, I already have a ford type e box and I have a clutch centre to fit onto the input shaft. I will be running the box backwards so
that 3rd acts as an overdrive. I think ill have to use the nose cover to support the input shaft as I can see no other way around it.
