Rover 75 1.8t k series engine/TF vvc g/box

Chaps

As some of you know I have become the proud(?) owner of a 2004 MG TF and in the best traditions of Locostbuilders, will be changing one or two things.

Now, mine has the 135 bhp engine, but I've won a 1.8 turbo K Series from a Rover 75 (160bhp, but check the torque ) which will be going in, and I think I'll chuck in a VVC box at the same time.

Now, can anyone see any issues joining the two up? I'd have thought it'll be fairly straightforward.

I think the turbo may foul the TF subframe but I'm not worried about that, will probably get the engine/box and a spare subframe and build it all up while I use the car over the summer, then rebuild, restore, repaint all the bits, then winter time have a play

Cheers

I can't offer advice, but can definitely offer admiration to anyone who goes for such a balls-out transplant like that.

What's the weight difference between the engines?

I can't tell you if the turbo will hit, but the gearbox will bolt straight on.

The K Series Turbo will give 210-220 bhp using an Emerald ECU and no other changes. Dave Walker was quite surprised when he mapped a friends.

The 1.8t engine is the exact same as the 135 engine in terms of size and weight (turbo engines have 1mm shorter rods), the turbo setup will add around 30kg, I used to run the 1.8t on a standard rover metro 1.1 gearbox and then I run a 300bhp k series on the pg1 gearbox for over a year,

If I were you I'd just take the 135 out bolt the 1.8t back in, use the engine side mount, flywheel and clutch from the 135 engine, probably best to use a charge cooler as an intercooler would be too much trouble feeding the pipes to the front, you shouldn't need an emerald, http://m.zandftuning.co.uk these people can remap mems3 ecu to run with the turbo

If that link doesn't work try typing "zandf" into Google
With there remaps your be looking at a £250 charge and 210bhp

Forgot to say, the turbo won't foul the sub frame but the exhaust is a real tight fit, easy way to get around this is to grind a groove into the sub frame for the exhaust to clear

you're have to swap the injector rail over from the 135 to the 1.8t also

Your be able to use your loom as well, just buy a aftermarket boost controller and set it to 13psi/0.9bar ( same as the zandf new map)

Hmm I am liking this loads and here was me getting bored with the tf already.

I am sure T&f came well recommended when I ran zs 180's

The 1.8t k series are great engines, I know the k's get a lot of banter thrown there way for the head gasket but treat the engine correctly and there fine, there lightweight, reasonable amount of power and next to no lag, I really don't know why the bell housing to mate the k series to type 9 aren't mass produced for the kit cars
