Anyone know of a pre-emissions silver top?
Looking to fit my zetec which I have rebuilt but people on here have suggested fitting a pre- 94 silver top to get around the emissions requirements
for Cats etc.
I haven't got much spare cash at the moment so does anyone know of a suitable silver top going cheap?

Its going to have to be an escort if you want a '92 engine (1.6 or 1.8 only)
Scour the classifieds for breakers,or breakers yards for old engines
Are you just planning to fit it for the iva and then put yours in , or utilise the engine number !!!!

I've got a pre-cat 2.0 silvertop from a Mondeo. Got a letter from Ford confirming it was pre-CAT for the IVA.

To the OP just fit the one you have and stick a cat on it. It will be cheaper and less work in the long run.

Good advice, this is what I intend to do. Blacktop Zetec also going into a Dax. When mine is IVA'd I want to drive it, not rebuild it!

I have a 2l silvertop in mine out of a Mondeo, I bought it as an engine and ECU and the ECU was stamped 94 so I assumed the engine was the same age
and thats what I told DVLA.
Does that mean if I ever blow it up and replace it with a black top I then have a more stringent emissions test?
Tuners building the real big power engines always prefer the silver top over the black top as they say it is a stronger engine due to having bigger
main bearing caps than the blacktop.

Fiesta rs1800 engine would be another one that would be pre cat. 1.8 130bhp silver top. Also same engine came in the escort xr3i. Must be quite tricky
to find one though. As previously said just go for a 2.0 blacktop and stick a cat on. Cheap as cheaps and I'm sure the cat could miraculously
fall off post IVA

Hadn't read you already had an engine. Stick it in and fit a 50 quid cat job done.

Got a 1994 Mondeo 2 litre under the bench. Took it out to put the Blacktop in, never worked out why really.
Keep saving it for another project but that will probably never happen. One day I might sell it.
