PVC valve mod and dipstick length
Hi all
I''m new to forum so hope I don't go over old ground.
Anyway trying to solve ultimately a low oil pressure issue but need to sort the two following issues
1. I would like to confirm the correct dimensions for a standard 2litre pinto dipstick (dimensions to max, low and over all length would be good) and
length of dipstick tube from engine block to top of tube. Reason I ask is I have a couple of dipsticks and can't remember which is right plus
the tube looks as though it may have been altered.
2. Having run an engine with Pcv valve installed for several years on an engine with a catch tank I now realise through 5 minutes of research this is
not such a good idea. It seems too simple as I have not come across the idea on the net but is it ok to cut the very end off the Pcv valve and remove
the innards and then replace into the flash back arrester part of the unit. I do have symptoms of crank case pressure such as oil spouting out of
dipstick tube so would like to get sorted.
Thanks for any help
Paddy

2. Yes
or fit small adaptor to block, suggest biggest bore you can fit 16mm or above, Pintos breath a lot
I eat to survive
I drink to forget
I breath to pi55 my ex wife off (and now my ex partner)

Dipstick stop to full 14.5" :15" to low, tube length 9.5" to where it goes in block, hard to measure that bit though
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

Thanks all for your help. I have been reading lots of threads on this it seems as though people get their dipsticks in a muddle a lot.
There seems to be a few different combos of dipstick and tube lengths but with most the difference between the two is approx 160mm. So i figure no
matter what modification you do to the sump a dipstick of 160mm plus your tube length is about right.
Different tube lengths i think because of difference in carb vrs injection engines had different length tubes.
Have had a good measure and new max oil level is about 70 mm below bottom of block, I have read big ends come down to around 55mm below so should have
clearance.
Fingures crossed.extra litre of oil I can get in plus pcv mod will sort things out.
Please if anyone else has some thoughts keep adding
Thanks again
