been offered a volvo 240 est 2 litre discs alround and can take wot ever i want off it and dont need to worry bout the shell

Ok I've only just read this so don't complain if its total bollox. Triumph stag people upgrade the brakes to princess 4 pots, which are an upgrade for ford M16. They also use Volvo 240, so perhaps they will fit as well.

Theres no upper wishbones on the 240
iŽd prefeer a 164 or a 140

My car uses Volvo-parts

Volvo B23 (2.3 liter overhead camshaft same as the 2.1 and 1.9 but differs from 2.0) 5speed m47 gearbox and LSD rear Axle from 240.

front hubs from Taunus stering-rack(?) from Escort mkII.

Volvo 240 stering axle(?)

maybe som of my english terms ar wrong, but i hope you understand.

yes, if you have the room then engine, box and axle (plus all related bits) may be useful? engine a bit heavy but no more so than a pinto. Axle heavy but you'll never break it!!
