zetec se sump removal
Ok, so i thought I'd just spend an hour removing the sump from my zetec se. NO chance!
So, I removed all of the bolts that I can see around the edge, lots of excess sealant visible, sump is solid to the block.
I managed to get a chissel in one cornet but that was about it.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how to free it.
Thanks in advance.

On a puma 1.7 engine I had the same problem. I ended up making like a sub-frame out of angle, essentially a complicated looking puller, I forget how
it located on the sump. Then by winding up nuts on the various studs it eventually popped off. It was just the sealant, but it was very strong. I
couldn't see any other way without causing damage, but I do hope someone comes along and gives us both a better solution.

There is a tool made for removing sumps fitted using sealant for not a lot of money , you hammer it into the sealant and around the sump . Could be
made by Laser tools IIRC, I have had success using an old hacksaw blade ,one of the ones about an inch wide, with the teeth removed and ground/honed
to a sharp edge on the end and one side

Useful info there. I wish I'd known such a tool existed when getting the sump of my 1.6 SE as it would've saved a lot of swearing and a
purple fingernail. The sealant Ford use to fix these things on is impressive stuff indeed!

I thought about removing the sump for a general poke around on my 1.7 puma engine, but in the end decided against it as I would never get a seal like
the one that comes from the ford factory!.
Why are you removing the sump?.
Also, anyone noticed that the Puma sumps seem really nicely surge protected as the oil pick up sits in it's own little area within the sump.

The engine is going in a Ford Anglia with an escort World Cup Cross Memeber, murphys law dictates that the nice bowl you mention on the Puma sits
right on top of the cross memeber so will need modifying to move the bowl to the front.

Just a small word of warning:
If you are removing the sump for "a poke around" don't turn the engine upside down to remove the sump, if you do any crud in the
sump can drain into the block/head and block oil ways and cause damage.
