Pinto Silicone hoses

Hi, Newbie post about a pinto powered Quantum xtreme that i bought recently that I am refurbing a few bits on.

I have been chasing a coolant leak on the stock 2.0 pinto and I have found some of the rubber hosing for the heater matrix is joined on to copper heating pipe that runs over the exhaust side of the engine. There are gobs of verdigris around the rubber hose ends where they go on to the copper which would tend to indicate it has been weeping here.

So, I would like to replace with Silicone.

I didn't have enough time to pull all the hoses out last night and measure each outlet size and so I was wondering if anyone knows the correct hose size to use on the heater (smaller) connection on a pinto water pump? The copper is obviously 15mm but the rubber hose has been bullied about to fit and Silicone wont tolerate the same treatment. Most places seem to offer 13mm and 16mm options but no idea which will be the correct fit on the pump spigot.

Appreciate any help you can offer for my first post!

Simon

Perfect thanks, going to take it a bit further to bits tonight and sort out some of the hose runs and then have a splurge on hoses.

A good ' work around' if you have a weeping joint is to get some bicycle inner tube, stretch it over the pipe stub, then fit your hose over that. Works brilliantly.

very nice -- I am on my second xtreme - had a red pinto powered one, which I saw up for sale recently, thus the ask and now have the to my knowledge only v8 one, which I currently converting to EFI using motorbike TBs.. just for fun.

take you have also found http://www.quantumowners.co.uk/ and https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/quantumowners from there...

any way I digress from the question re pipe dimensions!

welcome to fun motoring.

I saw a red and a yellow one go past on Ebay recently. I wanted to build my own but time and money prevent that at the moment. This one cost a bunch less, bar a few hose issues - it is in good conditions and was conveniently near somewhere I was going for work at the time.

I am a member of google forum and the car came with a load of editions of "Quantum mechanics" included so I have had a look at what QOC has to offer, not really sure it looks up my street at the mo although I may change my mind over time.

Another tip when using Ø15mm copper pipe is to fit a solder ring straight coupler on the end of the copper pipe. This gives you something to slightly stretch the hose over and for the hose clamp to tighten against. Cheap and simple way to get a good seal and prevent the hose blowing off under pressure.

I did similar, but used olives soft soldered onto the end.
