Decibel inserts
Chaps,
Does anyone know what these consist of, as I think I might (need) have a go at knocking up a couple to try and quieten my exhausts a little!
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "decibel inserts", but I used to have a Supertrapp "muffler" which had stackable discs
which were screwed onto the silencer outlet. The idea is that by adding or removing a number of discs, the engine can be tuned for performance or the
exhaust can be quietened.
I would have thought these silencers would be ideal for anyone considering track days where the noise polution Nazis patrol.
Supertrapps come in a myriad of different sizes and configurations and I believe they are available in the UK now too. Not sure where from
though...Demon Thieves?
Cheers, Rorty.

I quietened my lolocost exhaust because I wasn't convinced of noise levels for SVA. I turned a piece of plate to a good tight fit inside exhaust
after the collector. In the centre I turned a one inch diameter hole and welded on a 12 inch length of smaller diameter tube with about a 1 inch ID.
This was help in the exhaust with a couple of cut down drawing board spring clips. I'll see if I can find some pics... SVA chap had to check his
meter was reading correctly!

Simon,
Decibel insert from Jetex (on Right)
The one used for SVA is on the left. The one on the right needed a ring welding on at the small end to stop it rattling around and a series of holes
down it's length padded with suitable sound deadening material between the OD and the exhaust tubing.
Have a search for Jetex.
Cheers,
Colin

Ive seen these in the form of a bit of perf exhaust tube closed at one end and retained inside the end of the can with a grubscrew or push fit these
were aimed at bike cans. For SVA i stuffed a bit of rolled up stainless gauze with one end crimped together into my silencer tailpipe it measured 95 db
but then fellout and increased to much more.

Cheers folks - Demon Thieves do them for about 5 1/2 quid each so may just buy a couple!
Rorty, are you selling the plans to your mid-engined Beetle chassis yet? May think about that for the next project!!

You've looked at my site in the past day or so!
Yes, I'm just annotating the drawings during the evenings this week. They should hopefully be ready next week or the week after if I get enough
free time.
Cheers, Rorty.
