Radiator positioning
Hi all
I'm looking at loads of pictures / blogs and trying to work out why most radiators tend to be spaced away from the chassis so much.
Is there any cooling benefit (does having the rad tight up against the chassis rail affect the airlow) or is it more about allowing space for the
hoses and a rear mounted fan?

Normally at an angle to fit it under the nose cone which is very low at the front.

For me, with a striker, its a case of having as much space behind to allow for air flow and keeping a gap from the shocks. Also this reduces the size
of the cowling at the front to channel air through the rad.
I did not build it, but would of moved it if i was not happy with it.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

All of the points you suggest can be factors, also the nearer the opening of the nose cone the rad is the less chance there is for air to go
around/over the rad rather than threw it, also saves having to make up big ducting panels.
As far away from engine as possible is also a bonus, to help keep temps down around eng/under bonnet.
