I've got loose nuts!

I'd noticed a bit of water in the drip tray under my Locost, so I decided to investigate...
...Oops! I'd left the nuts on the alternator brace a bit loose so that I could adjust it, and the one at the block end also fastens the pump to the block.
Also... when adjusting the alternator I noticed that everything was a bit wobbly, and found that the 2 bolts holding the alternator bracket to the block were really loose! The only thing stopping one of them from falling out was the end of the alternator's hinge bolt.
Time for a bit on nutlock, methinks - or maybe I'll wire them.

Stopped the water drip, anyway!

Now maybe it's time to go all over the car checking nuts & bolts, now it's done a couple of hundred miles...

rgds,

David

I found this after the first 500 miles,i went over the whole car and found that there was a lot of settling down.
I cant recomend more checking the shocks and suspension parts, also engine mounts at block needed a nip up.

I'd already done a quick pass round the suspension fasteners, but not the engine...

Funnily enough, I also had my alternator on the verge of falling of. It came loose on my first run out and shredded the fan belt due to me not tightening it fully, after a few hundred miles I noticed the fan belt was loose and the bolts securing it to the block had come loose . They are now loctited and fitted with spring washers.
Nothing else has come loose yet but i plan to take it off the road at then end of next month and give everything a good look over.
Paul.

I just used the original bolts that held the alternator bracket on - I don't think that they even had plain washers, let alone lock washers. I guess that they just torqued them up in the factory knowing that they would stay there (which they did, until I undid them! ).

I was lucky, thinking about it - the belt was so slack that I doubt it was turning the water pump very much, and the alternator probably wasn't getting much action either.

I'll take it apart over the next few days and do a proper job...
