Zetec 5yr layup, sticky valves?
Hi, i am just trying to get my 1.8 zetec silvertop running after a 5 yr layup, when I turned the main crank by hand it stopped after 1 turn and wont
go any further, could this be a sticky valve? Is the zetec an interference engine? If so how do i fix the sticky valves?
I dont want to attempt to start it or even turn it over on the starter motor till this is solved.
Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

Do the cams rotate? Was the engine laid up with oil down the bores? It might be worth taking the cam cover off and checking for any clearance between
the cam and followers, any clearance might indicate sticking valves. If you find any sticking valves it might free off with a few clouts with a hammer
and soft drift on top of the valve after removing the cams before removing the head.

Take the plugs out sounds like hydraulic lock.

Definitely an interference engine. I have 16 bent valves that will swear to it!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure

Thanks Rusty Nuts! Will try that tomorrow, I put a little oil down the bores before storage and some more today, the plugs are all out so its not
hydraulic lock.

If you do have to hit the valves make sure the pistons are down the bores to stop valve to piston contact
|

Definitely an interference engine, Silver tops are notorious for lifters not draining down and leaving valves open.
One that has been standing that long, a couple of valves remain open and is probably corrosion on the stems.
Don't forget to throw the cam belt away!
