All it does is bring the water outlet from the back of the engine to front.

Looks pretty and makes plumbing slightly easier in RWD applications but personally I think they're a waste for £150-£250 quid.

RaceLine and Retroford definitely do them (in the above price range, I think the Raceline one is the more expensive of the 2). Last time I spoke to Dunnell, they were also talking about doing a kit.

Thanks steve

Yeah your right re the price and do i really need it,i'm sure i can get something made up that will do the job.
I'm just trying to price up the install, engines seem to be everywhere so they are no problem its the rest of the parts i'm trying sort and ofcourse in the locost fashion too the water rail is one part i dont want to throw 150 quid at if i dont have too.

Just take an elbow onto a stright run to the front of the engine. That's all the fancy cast alloy job is doing. When we did it in the sylva, we just strapped it to the NS chassis rail.

Have a look in my photo archive. I've used large bore plated copper tube to get the main thermo housing outlet to the rad, the smaller one below is done the same in 22mm copper and goes to a "T" piece in the bottom hose. the outlet on the drivers side is again copper tube to another "T" in the bottom hose. A double "T" section for the bottom hose can be got from Tiger and is for once well made and £20. Dunnel say keep the standard Ford thermo housing as it works far better than anything else and cost is zero.

search through ebay and the small ads

I got my water rail for £30 from a guy breaking a DAX, seen a few since less than £100. The Westie folks seem to regularly change their engines, where we at locost are getting into using the zetec (seems to be mostly pinto and xflow on here), the Westie folks seem to be moving from the zetec and the Vaux XE to newer stuff like the duratec. All good for us, I picked up some cheap carbs with ECU, fuel reg etc cheap from a bloke on:

http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=2bf5c8b0a6ef6d9736e43d38c47f1f58

as he was upgrading to fuel injection.

good luck searching.

Zilspeed,

Any chance of a few pics? I'm in the middle of putting a 2.0 blacktop into my Fury and the plumbing is one thing I have yet to start (Still making my own mounts and modifying the sump).

Cheers

Sorry - don't have the car any longer and don't really have any pics any more. It was about 7 years ago we did it.

It really was as simple as wombling an elbow onto the stat housing followed by a straight length going forwards. These were joined by a section of steel tubing as a joining piece. All held together by jubilee clips.

It worked - that's all

No worries - that was pretty much what I was planning anyhow.
