Leaky header tank caps...

Hi All,

Pressure tested radiator cap -> failed opens early 0.7 bar (should be 1.0 bar) and once opens closes at 0.1bar!!!

Got two new caps first one worked for (pressure test) but after one heat cycle from run out now opens at 0.7 bar (First line cap), second one (different design again First line) leaks even without running.

Any recommendation for good makes of pressure caps impression of the first-line one is not good??

Original one would be nice but it's a rover part.....

Dan

Is it the old type caps? Land Rover Forward Control 2 1/4Ltr. Petrol Series IIA 1962-67 RAD CAP

I have had nightmares with those type (not the one pictured) with some just falling apart when delivered. Others have a poor rubber seal so when the engine cools water isn't sucked back into the system from the unpressurised tank.
Best is to get a proper branded type, there are some about. Had success with a "Ring" branded one that must be 15 years old now....

Common problem an MGF & MG TF forum guy who tested new X-part ones and found it wasn't much better but found the one Halfords sell was OK.
