Silencer packing material
Now that I've swapped the bike carbs for a down-draft Weber I'm no longer deafened by the bike carbs' intake roar. Unfortunately I
can now hear that the silencer needs re-packing!
So where's the go-to place for silencer packing blanket stuff (acoustafil)? It's been so long since I last did it I'm out of touch
with the list of good suppliers. I'll probably need some steel wool as well...
HANG ON - I might have answered my own question - I see that Furore sell a right-sized piece for a reasonable price - I'll probably get it from
there (support the local suppliers, and all that).
Next question - do I need steel wool with high-temp Acoustafil?

Demon Tweeks - the Furore stuff was an 'alike' product. It may be perfectly OK, but I preferred to pay a tiny bit extra for the branded
product.

I used Acoustfil., when I rebuilt my r1 silencer the other weekend, im trying to get below 100db for track day in August,
there is a spread sheet to calculate how much to put in relation to diameter size.
Works well, ive been advised it will take a good few hard runs to get it to fully expand, (im down to 102db).

I should add that I've used Acoustafil in the past - it's just that I don't think there's much left in the silencer.
Mine should arrive in the next few days, so I'll have a job to do shortly.

Has the Acustafil website been changed ?, I have a vague memory that the calculations gave an incorrect amount of material at one time?

They used to suggest too much material that ended up as a nearly-solid mass once it expanded. I'll try their suggested measurements and see
what it looks like before I cut it to size. They also suggest 2 loose wraps around the inner perforated core, so I'll see if the two
suggestions match.

I re-packed my silencer last night with acoustafil. They say on their site to do a loose wrap around thew perforated tube, however i have used the
1.5m as indicated on the demon tweeks site and had to wrap it tight-ish to get it all back in the silencer again. Anyone else had the same experience?
if so, has it expanded fine anyway?

I used the recommended amount over the weekend - it was a snug fit, but it did turn out to be about 2 turns around the core.
It's noticeably quieter... but still quite loud! That's what you get with a cherry bomb silencer.

I have about 4 turns around the core! The acoustafil site sais to use 1.2m worth, not 1,5 as per DemonTweeks!
Its in there now, so will see what it does. Been told to thrash the hell out of it for a while to get it to expand and be fully effective!

I ended up taking another 1ft of material out of mine in the end. Its a looser wrap now! Not yet fired it up though!
