Rover V8

I am putting a Rover V8 into a bedford cf motorhome to tow my car and trailer on track days etc. The engine came with a distributor which is electronic but nothing else. What is needed to get it going and could I just use a points distributor from a P6 on this SDI engine. Any advice appreciated.

Drive key's at the bottom of the distributor that mates with the oil pump are different so you would have to change the oil pump internals as well.

You can usually get SD1 dizzys on ebay regularly. You probably need the Lucas 35DE type or maybe the 35DM if it's a later engine. The 35DE is sometimes called the Opus type.

Hope this helps,
Craig.

There are two electronic types, one has the amplifier module screwed to the side of it (this is the later type), all you need with that is the coil and away you go. The other one needs an external amp which is a boxy thing the coil is fixed onto.

The early SD1 dizzies gave a lot of trouble -- the ribbon cable used to fail due to movement of the base plate under vac advance.

I knew of one working away until quite recently -- the CF2 with the Opel engine not the bag of nails OHC slant 4.

Thanks for the replies, yes it is 1976 and to be honest it is okay with the slant four so long as you don't need to hurray. It is a coachbulit motorhome which will eventually tow my car to track days etc at a reasonable speed, hopefully.

Put a nice cheap to run diesel in the van and save the nice V8 for a kit car!
