Isuzu NQR 70 Race Lorry Motorhome Project
Isuzu NQR 70 Race Lorry Motorhome Project
Due to needing to reduce projects we have decided to sell our motorhome race lorry transporter project. This vehicle has been built to a great
specification so far and most of the parts to finish it are included. This is a unique truck, the idea behind it is to be able to accommodate 5+
people in comfort during a race weekend, but also have the convenience of being able to transport the race car onboard, fully covered and secure. So
when you view the pictures you will see a full sized living, eating (seating for 6-8 people) and sleeping area (2 fixed bunks, living area converts to
1 double bed and 1 single bed), full kitchen and luxurious bathroom. But the magic is, the lower bunk and floor lifts up allowing the race car to be
loaded and transported. You will need to study the pictures to really understand how it all works.
Another amazing feature is the "moonroof", this is a huge triple glazed unit in the roof which allows in a an amazing amount of light in
during the day and is a stunning place to lie and look up at at the stars at night. The rest of the roof has been double insulated and clad in proper
caravan roof boards, with LED spot lights. The roof is complete apart from clipping the joining strips into place (included in sale)
The bathroom has been built to a really high standard, using all new parts (no 2nd hand toilet), and is a good size, not the usual pokey motorhome
bathrooms. The walls are fully insulated. All the electrics and water is piped in and completed, the bathroom is 100% finished.
The kitchen and rest of the cupboards have been removed from a very modern and lightly used caravan, all these units are fully fitted and require no
extra work, the walls behind the cupboards are insulated and lined. There is plenty of overhead storage around the kitchen area, which then extends
all down the one side of the truck. The oven, hob and 3 way fridge look unused and are fitted in the units but still require plumbing/wiring in. At
the rear, next to the door is a full height wardrobe and large storage cupboard, the idea of this was for to hang the race suits and store bedding
above. The bunks are full size single beds, there is 1 brand new memory foam mattress, still in its wrapping. The lower bunk is made in 2 halves,
which hinges up to allow loading of the car, the mattress for this bed will store on the top bunk.
The seating area is an L shape, which we were also intending to be extendable to allow the beds to be used as 2 singles, rather than a double and a
single depending on the number of berths required at any weekend. The cushions for the sofa/beds look brand new, we sourced these from a 1 year old
van as we wanted something very specific. The false floor under the seating area is constructed from steel box section, covered in 9mm ply, the seat
frames are attached to this floor. To transport the car this floor hinges and scissors upwards, the rear of the floor then locates on the the upper
bunk frame (also constructed from steel box section), this then creates a large garage space for the car to be strapped down.
The water heater is a brand new Bosch Combi boiler as fitted to high end static caravans, this is all piped in, and just requires the gas connecting
and the flue installing (included). There is a brand new 240 litre water tank fitted under the floor, mounted to the chassis of the lorry. A top spec
high flow water pump and water pressure stabiliser bulb is installed into the water system. The water system is complete apart from a short connection
between the existing pipework and kitchen taps.
We have the entire electrical system (Sargent) from the caravan, including the control panel with the integrated12v/24v charging system, we also have
the complete and uncut wiring loom from the caravan which was carefully removed and marked up. The loom plugs into the control box and will feed
everything else that has been installed in the truck. There is a large solar panel included in the sale, the wiring and mounting brackets are already
fitted, the unit just needs to be bolted on (we didn't do this incase something fell on it and damaged it as we are building the truck under
some large oak trees). It has been designed to run off 12v if necessary, but we have also incorporated a stand alone 240v wiring system too for when
you have a electrical hookup or generator
There is a 2 way (gas/240v) Trumatic heating system included. This unit consists of a gas/electrical fire which can also be used as a blown air
heating system.
There are loads of left over doors, wood, fittings, brackets, hinges, handles etc from the caravan, including a full set of draws and a really nice
matching fold out table. There are also pelmets and trim panels in the matching material for the cushions, we were going to use some of these to clad
the sofas. I have included all of this in the extra photos.
Externally the truck is fitted with large heavy duty steel belly lockers. These have been designed to allow maximum storage for tools, spare parts,
generator, wheels etc. All the GRP belly locker doors are included in the sale, plus the mould if ever needed again. All the matching GRP edge
finishers are also included. Access to the living area is via a custom made GRP full height door and a stairwell in the floor. The door has been made
to match the custom belly locker doors.
At the rear there is a 1 tonne tail lift, with removable ramps. To load the car the tail lift is lowered and the ramps attached, the car is then
driven onto the ramps and the lift powered up to raise the car to the truck floor level.
The truck itself was initially a Travis Perkins plumbing supply delivery lorry, so not used with heavy/dirty loads, i bought the truck from them via a
dealer so its only had the 2 owners. The huge advantage of the NQR over a lot pf other 7.5T vehicles is the small lightweight cab, but the full size
8'x20' box. The lorry is far more manoeuvrable and can fit in tighter spaces than a typical lorry, plus the lightweight body means the
load capacity is much more than a standard truck. The lorry can be driven on a normal driving licence, but please check your entitlement as rules have
changed over the years. The engine is a powerful 5.2 litre diesel, coupled to an automated manual box, this is basically a manual gear box operated
automatically by hydraulics, there is no clutch pedal. The lorry is incredibly easy to drive, comfortable and economical. The truck has only covered
62000 miles, so is not even run in!!! The cab itself is in great condition, no rust or dents. The box is also in very good condition and the roof is
not damaged and doesn't leak. The tail lift is in good working condition and lifts our 650kg car easily. The drive on ramps can easily be
repositions if the track of your car is different to ours.
When complete, if finished off to the same standard i would expect this unit to be worth between £25-30k
There is so much to say about this build that I've probably missed loads of detail out, so i would advise coming for a viewing as it needs to be
seen to be appreciated. I also have loads more photos of the truck, i cant upload them all to here so click on the link below in this advert to go to
the full gallery.
