Crossflow oil return tube

Rebuilding my 681F block (it's for my Marcos so wanted to retain original type block) and a little stuck. I butchered the oil return tube (the plain tube from the oil pump into the sump not the pickup pipe) getting it out and need to source another. It's just a plain pipe so would a 3/8 stainless pipe cut to length do or should I try and source an original?

Bit of a waste really given that it will spend it's life hidden in a sump covered with oil!! (I hope)
